Getting oriented

What is Music Folder?

Music Folder is a digital sheet music app for musicians and bands. Store your PDFs, organize them into groups, build set lists for performances, annotate scores with Apple Pencil, use a built-in metronome, and sync everything across your iPad and iPhone via iCloud.

Which devices does it support?

iPhone and iPad running iOS 13.2 or later. iPad is the primary recommended device because of its larger screen for reading sheet music. The new iPad design (iOS 18+) and Liquid Glass (iOS 26) are both supported.

How much does Music Folder cost?

The app is free to download with a 10-song limit. Premium is a one-time purchase (no subscription) that unlocks unlimited songs, unlimited groups, unlimited music books, the metronome, and iCloud sync. The exact price shown in-app reflects your local App Store pricing.

Core concepts

What's the difference between a Song and a Book?

A Song is a single piece of music (one or more pages of the same song). A Book is a multi-song collection — a hymnal, fakebook, or any PDF that contains many songs. Books support bookmarks so you can mark and quickly jump to individual songs within the book.

What's a Set List?

A Set List is an ordered list of songs you'll play in sequence at a performance. During playback, all the songs are combined into one continuous document so you can swipe between them without leaving the screen.

Importing your music

Can I import multiple PDFs at once?

Yes. Songs tab → + → Import → tap Add Files, then select multiple PDFs in the file picker.

Can I import a music book (multiple songs in one PDF)?

Yes. When adding a new item, switch the "Song / Book" toggle to "Book." Books support multi-page navigation and bookmarks for individual songs within them.

Using the app

Can I include a bookmark in a set list?

Yes. When building a set list, you can add either a full song or a specific bookmark from a book. The set list will play only the bookmarked pages.

How do I annotate sheet music with Apple Pencil?

Open a song → tap the pencil icon in the toolbar. Draw, highlight, or write with Apple Pencil or your finger. Tap the pencil again (iPad) or the orange checkmark (iPhone) to save and exit. Annotations sync to your other devices via iCloud.

How do I use the metronome?

Open any song and tap the metronome icon in the bottom toolbar. Set the song's tempo (BPM) when adding or editing the song — the metronome will use that tempo automatically each time. The metronome plays even when your device is on silent. (Metronome is a Premium feature.)

How do I share a song, group, or set list with my bandmate?

Open the song/group/set list → tap the share icon (or ⋯ → Share). The app creates a .mfsong, .mfgroup, or .mfsetlist file. AirDrop, email, or send through any messaging app — the recipient opens it and Music Folder auto-imports everything.

iCloud sync

How do I sync songs across my iPad and iPhone?

You need Premium and the same iCloud account signed in on both devices. In iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → make sure iCloud Drive is ON and Music Folder is enabled under it. Sync happens automatically in the background.

My songs aren't syncing. What's wrong?

Check, in order: (1) same iCloud account on both devices, (2) iCloud Drive is on, (3) Music Folder is enabled under iCloud Drive, (4) Premium is active, (5) the internet is working. Initial sync for large libraries can take several minutes.

Privacy

What data does Music Folder collect?

Music Folder doesn't collect any personal data. Your sheet music, groups, set lists, and annotations are stored in your iCloud account. There are no servers that hold your content.
