Getting started

What is Music Folder?

A sheet music app for iPhone and iPad. Store your PDFs, sort them into folders, build set lists, mark up scores with Apple Pencil, and practice with a built-in metronome, tuner and piano. Everything syncs through iCloud.

Which devices does it support?

iPhone and iPad running iOS 13.2 or later. iPad is recommended for reading because of its larger screen, and it has its own sidebar layout on iPadOS 18 and later. There is no Android, Mac or web version.

How much does it cost?

Free for up to 15 songs, 1 book and 1 folder. Premium unlocks unlimited songs, books and folders, the complete toolkit and Planning Center: $2.99 a month or $19.99 a year, both with a 7-day free trial, or $49.99 once. If you bought Music Folder before version 3.0, you keep full access. iCloud sync is free for everyone. Prices are in US dollars and may vary by region.

What happens to my music if I cancel Premium?

Your PDFs stay in your library. The free limit of 15 songs only applies to adding more.

Does it work offline?

Completely. Your music lives on your device, so you can read, play through set lists and use every tool with no signal. iCloud catches up the next time you're online.

Songs, books and set lists

What's the difference between a song and a book?

A song is a single piece of music. A book is a PDF with many pieces in it, like a hymnal, fake book or method book. Books support bookmarks, so you can jump straight to a piece inside them.

What's a set list?

An ordered list of songs for a performance, service or rehearsal. In playback, the songs run together so you can page straight through the whole set, by tap, swipe or Bluetooth pedal.

Can I put a bookmark from a book in a set list?

Yes. When building a set list, add either a whole song or a bookmark from a book. The set list plays only the bookmarked pages.

Importing your music

Can I import several PDFs at once?

Yes. In your songs list, tap +, choose Import, then select multiple PDFs in the file picker. You can also send PDFs to Music Folder from Files, Mail or AirDrop.

How do I import a book with many songs in one PDF?

When adding a new item, switch the Song / Book toggle to Book. You can then add bookmarks for the individual pieces inside it.

Using the app

How do I annotate with Apple Pencil?

Open a song and tap the pencil icon in the toolbar. Draw, highlight or write with Apple Pencil or your finger, then tap the checkmark to save. Annotations sync to your other devices through iCloud.

How do I use the metronome?

Open any song and tap the metronome icon. Set the song's tempo when you add or edit it, and the metronome uses it automatically. It plays even when your device is on silent, and keeps going when the screen locks. The metronome is part of Premium.

Does it work with Planning Center?

Yes. Connect your Planning Center Services account to see your team's songs as a folder and upcoming services next to your set lists, then play through a service song by song. Planning Center is part of Premium, and access is read-only: plans are still edited in Planning Center.

Sync and sharing

How do I share music with my band or class?

Two ways. Share a folder or set list live with other Music Folder users: changes show up for everyone, and you choose who can edit. Or send a one-time copy of a song, folder or set list as a file through AirDrop, Messages or email; the recipient taps it to import.

How do I sync between my iPad and iPhone?

Sign in to the same iCloud account on both devices. In Settings → [your name] → iCloud, make sure iCloud Drive is on and Music Folder is enabled. Sync then happens automatically in the background.

My songs aren't syncing. What should I check?

In order: the same iCloud account on both devices, iCloud Drive turned on, Music Folder enabled under iCloud, and a working internet connection. The first sync of a large library can take several minutes.

Privacy

What data does Music Folder collect?

None. Your music and notes stay on your device and in your own iCloud account. Read the full privacy policy.
